Landline Redundancy
Owing to wideband communication, high speeds and access-on-demand to the network resources, EASTAR satellite terminals are an optimum solution for terrestrial communication channels backup. In case a terrestrial channel becomes defective satellite terminals provide operator’s traffic routing to the nearest node. After the terrestrial channel is revived, satellite station will automatically switch over to standby mode and in fact will not use satellite network resources. Satellite channels can also be used for transmission of excessive traffic during peak busy hours, when ground link is overloaded. There is a possibility to backup some channels or whole network fragments.
GSM / WiMAX Backhaul
To expand their business, mobile communication operators have to shift their activities to difficult-to-access areas which are not yet covered by mobile communication. Missing ground infrastructure is not a hindrance to the development of communications in such areas. Satellite terminals are installed at the same time with the operator’s base station (BTS) and will provide BTS connection to its network controller (BSC) even if the latter is located hundreds of kilometers away from this place. Owing to low price of the EASTAR network central station operators can create the necessary number of stand-alone satellite networks with their center at the respective BSC.
The solution offered provides optimization of A-bis traffic and its packetization for transmission over EASTAR satellite network. This makes it possible to use satellite network common resources for connection of a large number of base stations and provide unsurpassed efficiency. Satellite terminals can be used for connection of 2G/3G and WiMAX network base stations. in the long view, if laying land link becomes possible and cost effective, a satellite terminal can be used to backup such a link.
